About Andrew Brackenbury
Background
Hi - Thanks for visiting my website. Photography has long been my passion and as the years pass by I feel ever more fortunate that I've been able to turn something I love into a career. I'm pretty sure that the seeds were sown in my formative years; an Olympus Trip 35 was never far from one of my parent's hands and some of my earliest memories are of my Grandad taking family snaps with his prized polaroid camera. My own photographic journey started in my teenage years with a battered Russian SLR and my Dad's loft-based darkroom soon became a creative refuge.
I went on to study photography at the London College of Printing, graduating with a distinction, and for the next few years I worked as an assistant to some of London's foremost professional photographers, gaining the real-world experience necessary to be able to go it alone.
Since then I have undertaken a variety of commissions for high-profile clients including:
Arts Council England - BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) - BBDO - Bell Pottinger - Biss Lancaster - BSI (British Standards) - East of England Showground - Empire Magazine - The FA - Geographical Magazine - Johnny Walker - Ketchum Pleon - Kennedys - Laura Ashley - Lane, Clark and Peacock - The National Gallery - Pruprotect - Pilsner Urquell - The Samaritans - Timebank - Time Out Magazine - Warner Brothers
My Service
Photography is essentially about capturing fleeting moments, yet the best results are only achieved through careful preparation and effective post production. Before your shoot I will discuss the brief in detail and on the day itself I will allow plenty of time to set up at the location.
Preparation
Good preparation lies at the heart of any effective shoot – this is particularly the case when dealing with people. Whether it's your clients, your staff or directors that I am photographing, my pre-shoot aims are always the same: to have a clear idea of your requirements and iron out any logistical and technical issues well before the first image is taken. This way my entire focus during the actual shoot is on framing the image and building a rapport with the person or people on the other side of the lens.
This relationship between photographer and photographed is also key; being able to get on with almost anyone, even when under considerable pressure is a vital part of the job, and with experience I have developed different techniques that suit different personalities and situations, finding ways to bring people out of themselves or to allow the camera to see something of their real personality.
However some jobs, for example when photographing a conference or corporate event, require a completely different, low-key approach, and by using the most up-to-date cameras and fast professional lenses I am able to capture high-quality images while having as little impact as possible on the event itself.
Tailored
After the shoot I take great care to ensure my post-production techniques meet the highest standards - you will end up with a set of images tailored to your needs, that will get the best results whether it's for print or online publishing, for a poster-sized advert or a by-line portrait in a trade-press magazine.
I'm happy to work almost anywhere; much of my work is in London and I also cover the East and Midlands of England, with clients in cities including Peterborough, Cambridge, Leicester and Nottingham. Although many of my clients are high-profile, I'm very keen to establish working relationships with any size of business, paricularly in Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire. Most of my work is people-based and typical commissions include corporate portrait photography, PR photography and event photography.
Thanks again for taking the time to visit my website and have a look at my work. Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments or would like to have a brief, informal chat about your photographic needs.
